OASIS Members:
Below is a message from NAFIS about the Impact Aid training they are bringing to Oklahoma.  I hope that you can take advantage of it and join me at the Embassy Suites, OU Medical Center in OKC on January 4-5!
Billie

Oklahoma Impact Aid Recipients,

I wanted to reach out to you one more time regarding the Federally Impacted Schools Educational Foundation’s Two-Day Workshop on Impact Aid to be held in Burkburnett, Texas on June 12-13, 2017.

There are now only a few spots left in this critical meeting, and I expect them to fill – but you still have time to register. However, if you’re considering attending, we need to hear from you NOW to ensure we have a space for you. The meeting is capped at just 20 participants, so the sooner we hear from you, the more likely we will be able to get you in. It’s been three years since the last time we were this close to you, so this is your opportunity to obtain this prime information – vital to your school district’s operating budget.

There have been so many changes to the Impact Aid Program since it was reauthorized by Congress last year. Are you familiar with them? Are you confident you’re counting all the kids that qualify your district for a payment? Because Impact Aid is not a forward-funded program, do you know the best ways to estimate the Impact Aid payment your school district should receive so you can share it with your school board when they are budgeting for coming years?

FISEF has been conducting workshops on the Impact Aid application for more than 10 years, mainly in Washington, DC. But a few years ago, we heard from federally impacted school districts that it would be more cost-effective if we held our workshops regionally, so school districts could defray the costs of travel and lodging. Holding a meeting closer to your district means less time away from home and less costs associated with travel to the nation’s capital.

Each year, FISEF heeds the call from school districts needing the most recent Impact Aid information, and this year FISEF will be in your area.

If you are new to the Impact Aid application, or even if you’ve been responsible for Impact Aid in your district for years, here are some things you will learn in this important workshop:

-          The latest changes in the Impact Aid Law
-          The best times of year to take your Impact Aid count
-          The easiest way to convert student membership to Average Daily Attendance (ADA)
-          How to read your Impact Aid vouchers
-          Special guidance regarding Oklahoma Indian Trust and Treaty land
-          Changes to Indian Policies and Procedures you should know about
-          Highlights on Federal Properties portion of the Impact Aid Program and recent developments
-          The little-known option districts have to move children into different categories so they count the most for your district
-          Estimating payments, and specifically, estimating payments for your own school district
-          Direct contacts with Department of Education Impact Aid Office staff and analysts
-          A life-line for specific Impact Aid questions when you’re preparing your application

The Two-Day School Business Officials Workshop will be held on the campus of Burkburnett Independent School District, near Wichita Falls, TX. And your registration includes breakfast on both days and lunch on the first day. The second day will adjourn at noon, giving you plenty of time to get back home, so you spend less time out of the district.

But time is of the essence, so please consider registering early to secure your seat in the meeting (use this link for the registration form). The Impact Aid Program and application can be complicated, so we keep the attendee count low so you have more opportunity for one-on-one instruction. Here are just a few things attendees from your area have told us:

“I just counted my kids on the same day each year because I didn’t know any better. But after I attended the workshop, I realized I could get a higher count. What I paid in my registration fee was more than made up in the additional kids I found in one year!” – Oklahoma District School Business Official

“When they stepped me through how to estimate my school district’s Impact Aid payment for the coming year, I realized I could estimate for my board with confidence.” – Texas Impact School District School Business Official

“I found that by using my kid count in a different way I could increase my school district’s payment by thousands of dollars – I was amazed I hadn’t known this years ago.” – School Business Official – Texas

“This workshop saved me from several rounds of back-and-forth between me and my Impact Aid analyst. I now know how to file the appropriate IPP that won’t get rejected at the Federal level.” – Oklahoma Federally Impacted School District

The registration form for the Two-Day School Business Officials Workshop is attached with this email. Please consider registering today, or passing it along to the person in your school district responsible for filing the district’s Federal Impact Aid application.

Should you have any questions, please contact Bryan Jernigan, FISEF Activities Director, at bryan@nafisdc.org or by phone at 202-624-3611.

Sincerely,

Bryan Jernigan
FISEF Activities Director
